How Andean Medicine Meets Our ‘Turning Point’ in Human Evolution

How does Andean Medicine meet the ‘Turning Point’ in our evolution as human beings?

As we explore Andean medicine, I find it essential to provide a context that resonates with Western perspectives, so readers can see how this ancient wisdom might restore balance in ways Western approaches have overlooked. But first, let’s consider what is unfolding in our world today.

Renowned environmentalist Joanna Macy describes our times as a ‘Turning Point’—a pivotal transition from an ‘industrial growth’ society to one that sustains life. This shift calls for a transformation in human behaviour through three paths:

  1. Direct Action: Protecting species, cultures, and ecosystems.
  2. Structural Change: Building new economic, educational, and health systems to support a sustainable future.
  3. Shift in Consciousness: Embarking on a personal and collective journey of inner growth and awakening.

Andean medicine’s wisdom aligns powerfully with this third path—a shift in consciousness, a path that supports each of us in finding purpose during this transformative era. In this journey, we’re called to courageously explore our inner landscapes, to engage in the ‘pilgrimage toward consciousness,’ and to open our hearts and minds.

Psychology has increasingly recognised that focusing solely on the mind can create self-centred individuals disconnected from the world. Our Western conditioning, driven by rationality, has suppressed two essential parts of ourselves: our soul’s expression and nature’s voice. Without these aspects, we risk remaining stuck in a prolonged adolescence, as described by psychologist Bill Plotkin, unable to evolve into fully mature adults. Andean medicine addresses these gaps, fostering a deep connection to nature and helping us rediscover what has long been missing.

Over 600 years ago, the Inka prophesied that our planet would eventually need Indigenous medicine to restore our lost connection to nature. Today, Andean medicine offers the tools and teachings to remember this connection, encouraging us to heal and harmonize with Pachamama, or Mother Earth. Each of us has a role to play in this awakening; every individual contribution is a piece of the larger puzzle to restore balance on this planet.

My Journey with Andean Medicine

After a life-changing initiation, I began hearing Pachamama’s voice (Mother Earth) guiding me to share this transformative medicine. Through workshops and ceremonies over the past 15 years, I’ve witnessed countless individuals reconnect with nature, find meaning and soul expression in their lives. These practices have shown me that, as people heal and release old conditioning, they become more grounded, whole, and resilient, no matter the challenges they face.

In looking back, I see how Andean medicine has led me, piece by piece, to help others as they awaken to their role in this new paradigm. This journey is unique to each individual, guided by Pachamama herself, offering the lessons and transformations needed to bring us forward.

A Call to the Pioneers of Change

As Joanna Macy describes, each of us is called to different ‘doors’ in this paradigm shift. My role is to open the door to support this ‘shift in consciousness’ with Andean medicine and 30 years as a transformation facilitator.

Calling on pioneers who are ready to embody the change we wish to see in the world…

For those who feel a sense of responsibility to future generations, who seek to grow from within and create ripples of change, Andean medicine offers a pathway to mature beyond Western adolescence, into the elders our society so desperately needs.

This may sound like theory, but the reality is that this transformation is deeply personal -and loving! Pachamama holds each of us with care, offering the precise steps to align with our purpose, to release outdated patterns, and to embrace our role in this time of great transition.

At Medicine Heart, we welcome those who feel the quiet or bold call to transform into the best version of themselves. This medicine, grounded in nature’s wisdom, invites you to pause, turn inward, and rediscover your heart’s voice. In this space, you’ll find healing, meaning, and a sense of belonging to a much larger family—a community guided by beauty, love, and the support of a great Mother Earth.

Together, we can walk this path, letting Andean medicine illuminate the way toward a life-sustaining, soul-centred future.
